IKKE NURJANAH BRINGS DANGDUT TO AMERICA
Jakarta, 17/08/2016 – Indonesian Agency for Creative Economy (BEKRAF) supports the “AMERIKA TERLENA DANGDUT 2016” partnering with Ikke Nurjanah. This event will be held on 1 – 15 September 2016 in three cities of America including Washington, Philadelphia and New York.
“we are hoping that this event could trigger the singers to go international and Dangdut music can be known as the original music of Indonesia” said Joshua Puji Simanjuntak as a Marketing Deputy of BEKRAF.
Apart from Dangdut music show, Ikke will also attend the discussion invitation from university and the Indonesian embassy in USA.
This event is going to be more unique and attractive with the book review “Diary Dangdut Ikke Nurjanah”. This book discussion will be held in two places which are Library of Congress, Washington D.C and Smithsonian Folkways.
In this book review, Ikke will be accompanied by Professor Andrew Weintraub, an ethnic music department lecturer in Pittsburgh University, USA which has conducted special research about Dangdut music and wrote dangdut stories which is published by Oxford University Press in 2005.
“After going back to Indonesia, we will support the singers who got talent especially in Dangdut music because apparently Dangdut is unique, not all singers can sing Dangdut, there is a special characteristic called “Cengkok”, we are also hoping that with this support from BEKRAF, Dangdut can reach out bigger market consistently” said Joshua.
Ikke whose original nickname is Hartini Erpi Nurjanah, is very well known for her song “Terlena”. Her progress in dangdut music has bring her to achieve Indonesian music Academy awards (AMI) three times in a row in 1997, 1998 and 1999.
